Overview
This is a hands-on Senior Electrical Engineer role supporting our client's Shovels/Excavators team. The engineer will work directly on large mining equipment, focusing on electrical hardware and control systems — not software-only automation.
Responsibilities
- Physically work with circuit panels, power distribution systems, and electrical components like sensors, actuators, motors, and reactors
- Undo wires, re-route circuits, and solder connections to affect machine movement
- Understand how electrical changes impact mechanical systems (e.g., moving a wire can activate a piston)
- Collaborate with suppliers on transformers, drives, and motors
- Support prototype commissioning and resolve field issues
- Create software methodology but execute it physically on the machine
Note: This is not a software-focused role. Candidates who list PLC programming or firmware development as their primary experience may not be suitable.
Must-Have Experience
- BSEE or equivalent
- 8+ years in electrical systems or controls
- Deep hands-on experience with: contractors, MCCs, breakers, transformers, relays
- Power distribution and control wiring
- Circuit design and troubleshooting
- Sensors, actuators, motors, and embedded systems
- AutoCAD (3+ years)
- Basic understanding of SolidWorks and mechanical systems
- Some experience with PDM software
- Willingness to travel for prototype commissioning
- Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, UL, ISO standards
- Background in manufacturing automation or aerospace
