Job summary

LVI Associates in Chicago partners with a well-established engineering consulting firm to hire a Senior Electrical Engineer who will design and deliver building systems projects across markets.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of electrical design experience for building systems in a consulting environment.
  • Strong knowledge of power distribution, lighting, emergency power, and low-voltage systems.
  • Working knowledge of NEC and building/energy codes.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and coordinating multidisciplinary projects.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • EIT preferred; PE licensure desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Design and coordinate electrical systems for commercial, institutional, healthcare, industrial, and mission-critical facilities.
  • Prepare construction documents including power plans, lighting plans, one-line diagrams, schedules, details, and specifications.
  • Perform load calculations and equipment sizing for power distribution systems, switchgear, switchboards, panels, generators, conductors, and feeders.
  • Develop lighting designs, photometric calculations, emergency lighting, and energy code-compliant solutions.
  • Assist with or lead studies involving fault current analysis, breaker coordination, and arc flash considerations.
  • Conduct code research and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and national electrical codes.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, architectural, and structural teams.
  • Interface directly with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior engineers and designers while supporting project delivery objectives.
  • Manage multiple assignments while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget.

  • Experience preparing construction documents and coordinating multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • EIT certification preferred; PE license or path toward licensure highly desirable.
