Our client is a global leader in providing consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and commissioning, qualification, and validation (CQV) services for technically complex facilities, primarily within the life sciences industry.
The Senior Electrical Engineer will lead and execute electrical engineering projects independently while collaborating with Project Managers and multidisciplinary teams. This role requires expertise in electrical systems design, technical leadership, and client engagement across all phases of project delivery. The successful candidate will oversee complex engineering assignments, mentor junior staff, and ensure designs comply with applicable codes, industry standards, and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the Project Lead for all phases of engineering projects, including feasibility studies, building assessments, concept and basis of design reports, detailed engineering, and construction documentation.
- Evaluate project requirements and collaborate with Project Managers to define project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, and deliverables.
- Develop detailed scopes of work based on client meetings, project requirements, and preliminary assessments.
- Prepare engineering studies, calculations, and schematic designs for new electrical systems.
- Evaluate the performance and operation of existing electrical systems and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate with code officials, regulatory agencies, and design professionals regarding code interpretations and compliance requirements.
- Lead, assign, and review the work of engineers and designers while providing technical guidance and mentorship.
- Monitor project progress, review engineering documents, and provide markups for design revisions.
- Communicate effectively with clients, identifying scope changes and supporting Project Managers in managing additional services.
- Review contractor payment applications and provide technical support throughout the construction phase.
- Coordinate project documentation internally and externally to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely project delivery.
- Perform electrical engineering calculations, including:
- Service and feeder sizing
- Short circuit analysis
- Neher-McGrath calculations for underground conduit sizing
- Prepare or review construction cost estimates and project budgets.
- Support the development and implementation of company engineering standards and best practices.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers by serving as a technical resource.
- Perform additional engineering assignments and special projects as required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
- 10–12 years of electrical engineering and building systems design experience.
- Standby and emergency power systems
- Life safety systems
- Strong knowledge of applicable electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with engineering design software and drafting tools, including AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience performing electrical studies using software such as SKM, EasyPower, AmpCalc, or similar.
- Experience with:
- Medium-voltage power systems
- Hazardous (classified) electrical areas
- Telecommunications systems
- Minimum of 4 years of experience leading engineering teams and supervising engineers and designers.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb ladders as required.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
- Work in both office and field environments, including construction and manufacturing facilities.
- Ability to comply with cleanroom gowning and safety protocols when required.
- Exposure to varying environmental and working conditions depending on project assignments.
Travel Requirements
- Travel approximately 5–20%, depending on project needs.
- May be assigned to client sites for extended durations.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Must have reliable transportation and the ability to commute to client locations as needed.
- Must comply with client-specific safety requirements and company travel policies.
