General Overview
The Senior Electrical Engineer works with cross‑functional teams, including designers, customers, manufacturing engineering, and project leadership, to ensure robust and high‑quality product development. The role enhances designs with feedback from manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design, and simulations, providing support throughout the manufacturing of the systems they design.
The Senior Electrical Engineer (Electrical) develops new electrical systems and circuits for various applications, researches system ideas, and captures them in schematics and specifications. The engineer tests, simulates, validates, and qualifies each system, making adjustments as needed.
Detailed Description
Responsibilities
- Design, develop and implement technical solutions in two or more technical areas, leading smaller projects and coordinating with other engineers.
- Review and interpret customer documentation, conduct research, analysis, and experiments with minimal direction from senior staff.
- Create technical proposals (solutions and timelines) based on requirements.
- Research system ideas and draw up plans for these systems.
- Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs.
- Create designs in line with Celestica’s procedures, regulations and customer standards.
- Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.
- Solve complex problems.
- Liaise with suppliers, customers, contractors, and other internal teams.
- Recommend system modifications.
Electrical Tasks
- Create schematics, bills of material, diagrams, and drawings.
- Analyze and interpret data and information.
- Generate reports and documentation.
- Provide support during the manufacturing process.
- Finalize designs and send prints to the production department.
Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- Engineering foundation competencies.
- PCB design tools Cadence Allegro 16.x & 17.x; experience on Valor Trilogy 5000/NPI is preferred.
- High‑density PCB design up to 28 layers; familiarity with high‑speed layout requirements.
- Knowledge of board and trace constraints.
- Strong understanding of PCB & PCBA manufacturing processes.
- Strong knowledge of industry and quality standards; IPC standards preference.
- Knowledge of IT platforms and database design.
- Familiarity with EMC & EMI layout requirements.
- Ability to summarize layout experience from customer requirements.
- Self‑motivated and capable of completing assignments in a dynamic environment with aggressive schedules and complex design requirements.
Physical Demands
- Duties performed in a normal office environment.
- Require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or detailed data.
- Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, calculator).
- Occasional travel may be required.
Typical Experience
- 3+ years of related experience; experience in similar job roles.
Typical Education
Bachelor’s degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience. Educational requirements may vary by geography.
