Summary

The Engineer, Hardware Design works with cross‑functional teams with other designers, customers, manufacturing engineering and project leadership to ensure robust and high quality product development. Enhance designs with feedback from reviews in areas such as manufacturing, test, supply chain, reliability, industrial design and simulations. Provide support throughout the manufacturing process of the electrical/mechanical system that they have designed.

The Engineer, Hardware Design (Electrical) develops new electrical systems/circuits for various applications. Research system ideas and draw up plans for these systems, and capture them in schematics and system specifications. Test, simulate, validate and qualify their systems and make adjustments as needed.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

  • Design, develop and implement technical solutions in two or more technical areas. Lead smaller projects and may coordinate with other engineers including reviews of their work.
  • Review and interpret customer documentation, conduct appropriate research, analysis and experiments with minimal direction from senior staff.
  • Creates technical proposals (solution and timelines) based on requirements.
  • Research systems ideas and will draw up plans for these systems.
  • Design, modify and implement systems that meet customer and Celestica needs.
  • Create designs in line with Celesticas procedures, regulations and customer standards.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.
  • Solve complex problems.
  • Liaison with suppliers, customers, contractors, and other internal teams.
  • Recommend system modifications.
Electrical
  • Creation of Schematics, Bills of material, diagrams, drawings, etc.
  • Analysing and interpreting data and information.
  • Creating reports and documentation.
  • Provide support during the manufacturing process.
  • Finalize designs and send prints to the production department.
Knowledge / Skills / Competencies
  • Engineering Foundation Competencies
  • PCB design tools Cadence Allegro 16.x & 17.x, experience on Valor Trilogy 5000/NPI preferred.
  • Experience in high‑density PCB design up to 28 layers and familiarity with high‑speed layout design requirements.
  • Working knowledge of setting and complying with board and trace constraints.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB & PCBA manufacturing process.
  • Strong knowledge of industry and quality standards; knowledge of IPC standards preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of IT platforms and database design.
  • Familiar with EMC & EMI layout requirements.
  • Ability to summarize layout experience from customer’s requirements.
  • Self‑motivated, capable of completing assignments in a dynamic environment, aggressive schedule, and complex design requirement.
Physical Demands
  • Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
  • Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data.
  • Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Bachelor degree or consideration of an equivalent combination of education and experience.
