The role requires planning, developing, and reviewing electrical designs, including 3D models and 2D drawings, with strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.

The ideal candidate has extensive SmartPlant 3D, AutoCAD experience, and knowledge of NEC/NEMA/IEEE standards, with DoD/USAF project exposure. U.S.

Qualifications

  • Requires AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 7-8 years of experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience.
  • Must be a United States citizen and able to pass pre-employment checks.

Job Summary

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is recruiting a Senior Electrical Designer (SmartPlant) in Ogden, UT, to prepare electrical system designs for DOD and USAF projects. The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will specifically support the USAF Sentinel program Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase. U.S. Citizenship is required Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the Hanford Site

Contract Duration: 12-month contract assignment supporting the Sentinel system in OGDEN, UTAH

Proposed start date: 10/05/26

Proposed end date: 10/04/27

Pay rate: $85.00/hour

Security Clearance required (This position must be filled by someone who either currently holds a security clearance or can obtain a security clearance)

In this role, you will plan, develop, and review electrical engineering design work, produce drawings and documentation, and prepare design estimates for a project.

You will coordinate with clients, facilitate technical discussions, and review key electrical drawings, calculations, and bid summaries.

You will solve complex technical issues and ensure electrical designs comply with all regulations and standards.

This position is for a SmartPlant 3D Designer who will prepare electrical 3D designs as well as 2D electrical AutoCAD and SmartSketch designs to support new facility infrastructure design for DOD and USAF projects.

The successful candidate must have strong organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs.

This role will support design development of electrical systems and equipment for the Sentinel project by preparing models, drawings, and evaluations, in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements.

The candidate will work with electrical engineers, junior designers, and other technical disciplines in a team environment with job responsibilities (include but not limited to): Supporting, coaching, and training less experienced designers. Modeling of electrical rooms, equipment, cable tray, conduit, conduit duct bank, lighting, receptacles, etc. in a Smartplant 3D model environment. Creating bill of materials and drawing installation details for the modelled items listed above in addition to grounding, lightning protection, support details, and other details using SmartSketch and AutoCAD. Performing calculations utilizing AGI 32 for lighting layouts and ETAP for ground grid layouts. Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, i.e. input, interference reconciliation, etc. with other physical related disciplines. Responsible for physical design implementation by producing drawings of interior and exterior layouts/plans/elevation views of the raceway design (conduit/cable tray/duct bank), equipment location and layout, lighting layouts, lightning protection layouts, and grounding plans. Develop material specifications utilizing the software SpecsIntact. Coordinate with systems engineering department to establish and verify design/project requirements. Capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry-proven concepts, and procedures. Ensures electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards.

Major Responsibilities: Leads or administers work of Electrical designers and drafters for a business line technology to include the preparation of layouts, study drawings, detailed 2-D and 3-D Computer Aided Design (CAD) design models and construction drawings Develops designs for complete and complex Electrical engineering systems such as earthwork, drainage, road design, foundation, and steel detailing with minimum supervision from which detailed scale models and/or construction drawings are completed. Ensures Electrical systems designs comply with all applicable installation codes, regulations, and standards. Assists in constructing detailed scale models Prepares or assists with the preparation of assigned material requisitions and bid evaluations Monitors and checks work for compliance with approved Electrical design standards to provide quality design, reliable/safe plant operation and construction economy Participates in constructability reviews Prepares design and drafting procedures to standardize design effort Coordinates or makes jobsite visits, as required, to resolve problems and interpret drawings and documents Reviews Electrical design scope changes, as required, for project management.

Education and Experience Requirements: Requires AA/AS or Certificate in Engineering/CAD with 7-8 years of experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience . Must be a United States citizen. Must be able to complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Required Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge & application of NEC code and NEMA/ANSI/IEEE Standards. Must have experience with an electronic Cable Management System, such as the SETROUTE program, and be able to input and complete corrections to the database. Must be able to collaborate well with other disciplines. Ability to cope with conflicting deadlines, frequent interruptions, and multiple tasks. Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, drawings for electrical systems and equipment on nuclear or industrial process facilities, data centers, central utility plants, or complex building electrical systems. Hands-on and advanced experience using Smartplant 3D, SmartSketch, and AutoCAD. Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written). Ability to utilize engineering and office automation tools effectively. Broad knowledge of the application of electrical engineering design principles. Strong knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and layouts. Knowledge of Bechtel Corporate guides and standards. Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as drawings and specifications. Ability to express technical issues in a clear and concise manner, both written and verbally. Ability to resolve design issues independently and collaboratively with other engineering disciplines, construction, and the client. Modeling of piping, HVAC, and Mechanical equipment in a Smartplant 3D model environment. Previous DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, USAF, or NASA project experience. Experience working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ISO-9000.
