Job summary

Applied Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems. You will translate system requirements into robust electrical designs, own schematics, BOMs, and drive design reviews and testing.

You will mentor junior engineers, collaborate across teams, and stay current with power systems, microgrids, and renewable energy trends. The role supports a remote environment with nationwide travel up to 20%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of industrial electrical design experience.
• Knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration.
• Experience with switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators.
• Experience with NEC, UL, and derating criteria.
• Proven design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting experience.
• Familiarity with safety, compliance, and design standards.
• NFPA 70E Certification.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% within the USA.
• ERP/PLM/engineering data management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas.
• Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs.
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and bills of material.
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams.
• Mentor early‑career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards.
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution.
• Stay current with advancements in power systems, microgrids, renewable energy, and power conversion technologies.
• Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners.
• Contribute to projects that impact communities across North America.
• Apply your skills in a dynamic environment that values ownership and innovation.
