Head Engineering Consultant- Mission Critical Engineering & Design
Company Overview:
A Top 5 ENR listed AE design firm, with an annual turnover of over $300 million, is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their expanding Mission Critical team on a full-time remote basis. Data Center design experience is preferred but not essential. The firm has received multiple awards, including 'Best Design' and 'Best Place to Work', across their 14 locations. Recent strategic acquisitions have expanded their Mission Critical Department across the US.
About the Role:
- Build system concepts and documentation from schematics through construction administration phases within the discipline.
- Coordinate regularly with the Supervisor during project development and performance.
- Possess proficient knowledge of primary design sectors including Power Distribution, Lighting and Controls, Specification writing, and Energy conservation/reporting.
- Function as Project Discipline Team Leader on large, complex projects when assigned.
- Oversee project team members within their discipline, monitoring compliance with project budgets.
- Prepare and monitor project status reports.
- Coordinate with the Electrical Engineering Discipline Leader on project Man-hour Estimates.
- Research code requirements and document findings for projects.
- Contribute to project cost models and design accordingly.
- Maintain an Electrical Basis of Design Journal throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct material and product research as needed.
- Attend project meetings and interface with other Discipline Team Leaders.
- Respond to client inquiries within 24 hours.
- Review submittals and interpret documents during bidding and construction phases.
- Mentor staff to ensure quality services within a team environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Non-Project Responsibilities:
- Mentor support engineers for greater project responsibilities.
- Provide feedback on support engineers' performance.
- Identify and participate in quality and service improvements.
- Engage in training and professional activities.
- Contribute to departmental discussions on lessons learned and new technologies.
- Recognize staff achievements.
Qualifications:
- Experience with mission critical/data center projects.
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering and PE licensure required.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- At least six years' experience in the A/E industry preferred.
- Deep knowledge of all project phases from schematic to close-out.
- Strong understanding of interdisciplinary coordination.
- Proficiency in short circuit and coordination calculations; experience with EDSA, SKM, or similar software preferred.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate and mentor staff, delegate tasks.
- Proficient in computer-aided design and Revit.
- Detail-oriented, motivated, flexible, and team-oriented.
Physical Requirements:
- Travel capability to project sites.
- Ability to access and evaluate project sites.
- Use of communication and documentation equipment.
- Visual acuity for responsibilities.
