Job summary

Macmillan, via Farrar, Straus and Giroux, seeks a Senior Editor to acquire primarily for the fiction list and lead the publishing program. You will shape manuscripts from structure to line edits, cultivate author careers, and coordinate with in-house and external partners to reach broad audiences.

You will publish 8–10 titles annually, build agent and writer relationships, and guide editorial strategy with strong market insight.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of book publishing experience or the equivalent.
• Highly developed editing and copywriting skills.
• Extensive contacts in writing, journalism, agent communities and beyond.
• Familiarity with negotiating and contract language.
• Experience and interest in working collaboratively and supporting the success of the team as a whole.

Responsibilities

• Publish 8-10 books per year, including lead titles.
• Commission and acquire a range of titles with strong potential.
• Build relationships with agents, writers, and rights directors and negotiate major terms.
• Develop and edit manuscripts at structure and line level.
• Shape authors' careers across titles and think strategically.
• Coordinate across departments and maintain publishing schedules.
• Mentor and provide feedback within the editorial team.
