Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of publishing workflow.
  • Familiarity with science fiction and fantasy marketplace, specifically space operas and epic fantasies.
  • Managerial experience preferred.
  • Excellent literary agent contacts.
  • Ability to write galley, catalog, flap/cover copy.
  • Public speaking: ability to present titles to sales force.

Responsibilities

  • Acquire and edit approximately 10-15 original adult SFF titles a year.
  • Be part of a collaborative team involved in the publishing process.
  • Be a leader and positive influence within the teams.
  • Work closely with authors during editing process.
  • Read and evaluate submissions from industry contacts.
  • Brief the cover designer on look, tone, and content of titles.
  • Present selected titles to the national account reps.
  • Determine key selling points for all launches.
  • Create sharp, tailored pitches for every stage of publishing.
  • Expand and nurture relationships with agents and agencies.
