Society for Scholarly Publishing seeks an Editor – Authored Works Review to manage the full editorial lifecycle of official materials, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with standards and messaging priorities.

The role focuses on substantive editing, fact-checking, coordinating reviews, and obtaining final approvals for public-facing documents, reports, and leadership communications. Onsite in Bethesda, 1-year contract with potential renewal; HIPAA-aware governance is essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional editing, copyediting, or technical-writing experience.
• Exceptional command of English grammar, punctuation, and AP Style.
• Proven experience in healthcare communications, military public affairs, or similar regulated environment.
• Thorough understanding of HIPAA and PHI safeguarding requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage the end-to-end editorial lifecycle for articles, reports, web content, and leadership messaging, including editorial calendars and multi-stage review tracking.
• Perform detailed editing and proofreading for clarity, accuracy, grammar, AP Style, command style guides, and applicable regulations.
• Conduct rigorous fact-checking and source verification for claims, statistics, and medical information, coordinating with subject-matter experts.
• Coordinate feedback and revisions among authors, SMEs, legal counsel, and public-affairs leadership.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce organizational style guidance to ensure a consistent professional voice.
• Manage final clearance and present finalized materials for senior Public Affairs approval prior to release.
