Job summary

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Network Engineer to support a long-term DoD program focused on enterprise network security, firewall engineering, and secure network infrastructure. This 100% onsite role is based in Norfolk, VA or Pearl Harbor, HI and supports NMCI/NGEN environments with Tier III engineering expertise across firewalls, VPNs, DMZs, and security appliances.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 8–12 years of relevant experience; substitution allowed at Hiring Manager's discretion
• U.S. Citizen with an active DoD Secret security clearance
• Active DoD 8570.01 IAT Level III certification (e.g., CISSP, CASP+, CCNP Security)
• Active vendor certifications from Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, or F5 Networks
• Extensive hands-on experience engineering, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise firewalls, VPNs, and DMZ
• Strong experience with Juniper firewall appliances and Cisco security devices
• Experience across routing, switching, MPLS, VPNs, BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, VLANs, Spanning Tree, LLDP, VoIP, Multicast
• Solid understanding of IP addressing, subnetting, and enterprise security architectures
• Experience with Tier III support, NOC escalation, incident response, and RCA
• Familiarity with IaC and automation (Ansible, Python)

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, configure, and maintain enterprise firewall, VPN, and DMZ infrastructure
• Engineer and troubleshoot Juniper and Cisco security appliances
• Perform network modifications, upgrades, maintenance, and security enhancements
• Provide Tier III engineering support and technical escalation
• Collaborate with NOC and engineering teams for incident response and problem management
• Develop and maintain Engineering Implementation Plans (EIPs) and configuration procedures
• Plan network upgrades and security enhancements with stakeholders
• Participate in incident management, RCA, and vendor escalation
• Support service improvement, performance tuning, and infrastructure optimization
• Create SOPs, TTPs, and best practices for network security
• Identify opportunities for automation and validate deployment solutions
• Apply defense-in-depth and security architecture standards
