Job summary

Blue Origin, based in the United States, is seeking an experienced mechanical design engineer to join the Lunar Permanence team and contribute to pressurized docking mechanisms for lunar landers and related hardware. You will collaborate with NASA and partners to deliver safe, reliable flight hardware within cost and schedule constraints.

The role requires 10+ years in aerospace mechanical design, strong CREO skills, GD&T knowledge, and clear technical communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience.
• Experience designing aerospace or equivalent mechanical system elements.
• Strong mechanical design, integration, and mechanism analysis using 3D modeling.
• Experience with GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stacks.
• Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, integration, and qualification testing.
• Proficient in technical writing and communicating complex ideas clearly.
• Experience specifying margins and test sequences for aerospace systems.
• Ability to earn trust and work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Design and development of safety-critical mechanical components for pressurized docking mechanisms.
• Coach, mentor, and technically assist junior engineers.
• Participate in the full design cycle of flight hardware, including drawings and interface control documents with GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Create documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware; manage suppliers.
• Develop non-flight proof-of-concept hardware for fast-moving R&D projects in a small, agile team.
