Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a senior mechanical design engineer to join the Lunar Permanence program focused on docking mechanisms for crew and cargo transport to the Moon. You will design safety-critical components, lead and coach junior engineers, and engage in the full flight hardware design cycle.

You will apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and 3D modeling to deliver compliant hardware and documentation. Collaboration with NASA and partners is essential, with a focus on schedule and cost control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience.
• Experience designing aerospace or spacecraft mechanical systems.
• Strong mechanical design and mechanism analysis using 3D modeling and CREO.
• GD&T analysis (ASME Y14.5) and performing tolerance stacks.
• Knowledge of manufacturing, assembly, integration, and qualification testing.
• Proficient in technical writing and communicating sophisticated ideas clearly and concisely.
• Experience specifying margins and test sequences for aerospace systems.
• Ability to earn trust and maintain positive relationships.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop safety-critical mechanical components and systems for pressurized docking mechanisms.
• Coach, mentor, and technically assist junior engineers.
• Participate in the entire design cycle of flight hardware, including conceptual and detailed design, trade studies, structural analysis, development testing, and qualification; generate drawings and interface control documents with GD&T.
• Create documentation for assembly and testing of development and flight hardware; participate in subsystem level testing including planning, data reduction and analysis; develop component specifications and manage suppliers.
• Leverage experience to quickly design and produce non-flight, proof-of-concept hardware for fast-moving R&D projects; work in a small, agile team with shifting priorities.
