CARIAN is seeking a Senior Distribution Planning Engineer – DER Integration to lead hosting capacity analyses and distribution studies for a major New Jersey utility. The role emphasizes DER integration, CYME modeling, and close collaboration with planning, operations, and technology teams.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in electric utility distribution engineering, advanced CYME proficiency, and experience with hosting capacity, power flow, and power quality studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related field.
• Minimum 5 years in electric utility distribution engineering, planning, or DER integration.
• Advanced proficiency with CYME and related analysis modules.
• Experience with hosting capacity analysis and distribution system modeling.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform CYME-based hosting capacity analysis and automate study workflows.
• Conduct distribution power flow analyses and validate models with field data.
• Perform power quality analysis using AMI/SCADA data and field measurements.
• Develop Level 1–3 DER screening workflows using CYME and Power BI.
• Define screening methodologies and determine when EMTP/transient analysis is needed.
• Support Power BI dashboard strategies for DER screening and hosting capacity.
• Collaborate with engineering, planning, operations, and technology teams on DER integration.
• Prepare technical reports, study documents, methodologies and SOPs.
• Support distribution planning and grid modernization studies.
