Job summary

CARIAN is seeking a Distribution Portfolio Engineer to support development, planning, and management of electric distribution capital investments for a major utility client in Akron, Ohio. The role sits at the intersection of distribution engineering, capital planning, project development, and data analysis.

The ideal candidate has a strong engineering foundation, knowledge of electric utility infrastructure, and the ability to translate technical needs into executable capital plans,

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited four-year college.
  • 3+ years of relevant electric utility engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of electric utility infrastructure and capital project development.
  • Ability to evaluate technical project information and translate engineering needs into actionable requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with strong stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • Ability to coordinate across multiple engineering, project management, operations, and business organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain long-range distribution capital portfolios with utility stakeholders and leadership.
  • Support development and implementation of the utility’s five-year capital plan.
  • Coordinate across operating companies to identify capital needs and priorities.
  • Evaluate project needs, timing, feasibility, dependencies, and funding for portfolio decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to bundle or sequence projects to improve execution and value.
  • Develop project concepts, scopes, estimates, schedules, and funding requirements.
  • Review project information for completeness and alignment with scope.
  • Support planning for distribution equipment, transformers, feeders, substations, and reliability investments.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, operations, and management to identify constraints and risks.
  • Analyze portfolio data to identify gaps, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support data-quality initiatives and alignment across systems.
