Job summary

Eversource in Massachusetts is seeking an experienced Distribution Planning Engineer to lead and perform advanced planning for distribution lines and substations. You will model, analyze, and propose two-way communication-enabled grid solutions, including PV, EV, and storage integrations.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and regulatory bodies, develop long-term plans, and prepare documentation and testimony for filings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Electric Power Systems concentration preferred.
• Advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in planning, design, and operations associated with distribution line and distribution substation facilities.
• Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Connecticut, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Identifies distribution system problems involving multiple feeders and substations; leads scenario-based planning studies; evaluates alternatives; and recommends appropriate solutions to ensure a reliable distribution system.
• Develops medium-term (2 to 5 year) and long-term (5+ year) distribution plans involving load relief, capacity, asset-related issues, and large DER integration.
• Collaborates with multiple cross-functional groups to develop long-range planning criteria for integrating and enabling two-way communication of new technologies, including photovoltaic solar (PV), electric vehicles (EV), and battery storage.
• Prepares contingency studies for distribution networks, including N-1 and N-2 analyses.
• Proposes new distribution substations and associated overhead (OH) and underground (UG) feeders.
• Performs area-wide voltage and power factor studies and recommends findings to Distribution Engineering and Operations.
• Leads or conducts forecast studies to determine loads used in distribution planning studies.
• Represents the company regarding matters in distribution planning at state public utility commissions and various state and regional entities.
