Job summary

KCI Technologies, Inc. in Asheville seeks a Distribution Engineering Designer III to advance electrical distribution design projects. You will produce CAD drawings and BOMs, collect field data, and apply technical skills like cable loading and voltage drop calculations while coordinating with clients and crews.

Work includes office duties and significant field exposure, with safety meetings and on-site meetings to progress projects. PE license preferred; FE can count toward experience.

Qualifications

• Four-year ABET-accredited Engineering degree with at least four years of relevant experience in distribution design.
• Passing the FE exam can count as six months of relevant experience.
• Active PE license can replace two years of relevant work experience.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Producing computer-aided electric distribution design drawings and BOMs for complex projects without ongoing oversight.
• Performing field data collection using standard tools and procedures; conducting project inspections.
• Applying skills such as cable pulling, voltage drop, transformer loading, and pole loading calculations.
• Understanding client construction standards and workflow processes to support projects.
• Generating permitting and other project-supporting documentation as needed.
• Communicating with clients and leading site meetings with minimal oversight.
• Pursuing work from clients and understanding hazards to prevent unsafe conditions.
• Participating in scheduled safety meetings and contributing to hazard identification and mitigation.
• Ambition to contribute to storm response as Assessor or Team Lead when required.
