Job summary

Thayer Power & Communication Line Construction Co., LLC is seeking a Senior Distribution Engineer to develop cost-effective design and construction packages for overhead and underground distribution systems for utility clients. You will perform engineering analyses, support field construction, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

The role requires a PE license, PMP certification, and experience with distribution design tools.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 6 years of relevant electric distribution design engineering experience working with electric utilities.
• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering, Engineering Technology, or closely related discipline
• Professional Engineer license (PE)
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
• Experience with distribution design tools such as DDS, CYME, BOUD, Pole Foreman, Spida-Calc, O-Calc or similar
• Ability to demonstrate proficiency in NESC standards.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Ability to utilize a personal vehicle, travel reimbursed at IRS-approved rates; valid US driver's license

Responsibilities

• Develop design and construction work packages for electrical overhead and underground distribution systems for electric utility customers; assist in oversight and QA of team design work.
• Review client-provided work and assess scope requirements; frequent interaction with the customer
• Perform engineering calculations such as structural analysis for wood pole loading, guying calculations, conductor sag/tension for spans, and voltage drop/flicker calculations.
• Provide engineering support during construction, including post-construction reviews to ensure standards are met.
• Conduct root cause analysis of outages and mitigation using engineering principles and design.
• Be comfortable in a field setting; may visit customer offices or participate in field activities as needed.
• Coordinate conflicting utilities and field engineering design requirements; develop large design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in dense urban environments, including work permits, easements, and ROW applications.
• Experienced engineers may lead and train others and perform QA/QC responsibilities.
