Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to lead in-house display mechanical design for next-gen SDV architecture. You will own 3D/2D CAD, GD&T, and tolerance analyses while partnering with electrical and PCBA teams to integrate components into electro-mechanical systems.

You will develop tests, prototypes, and validation plans, drive design strategy, and manage multiple projects with cross-functional teams across GM and Tier 1 suppliers. Hybrid work model offered.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering degree.
• 10+ years in design and development of styled electronics or appearance-grade components.
• Proven collaboration across functions and organizations.
• Proficiency in NX and Teamcenter for 3D/2D CAD and documentation.
• Strong fundamentals in solid mechanics, materials, heat transfer, and manufacturing.
• Experience engaging with display manufacturers.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design of displays per program timing toward launch.
• Design components including castings, moldings, seals, PCBA mounts, connectors.
• Perform design calculations, GD&T and tolerance stacks.
• Select materials with GM best practices and partner with Materials Engineering.
• Create 3D/2D CAD and lead reviews with stakeholders.
• Develop test plans and perform proof-of-concept tests.
• Lead prototyping, testing, analyze data, adjust designs.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers to integrate components.
• Support root cause analysis from test results.
• Build partnerships with GM and Tier 1 suppliers.
• Develop virtualization technologies to accelerate development.
• Communicate progress and risks to stakeholders.
• Drive mechanical design strategy for the enterprise.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
