Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Director of Claims – Workers’ Compensation to lead a regional team across New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine and other Northeast jurisdictions. This is a high‑impact leadership role focused on building strong teams, managing high‑exposure claims, and driving quality, service, compliance and financial performance.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years WC claims experience, 5+ years of leadership in a multi‑jurisdictional environment,

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Workers’ Compensation claims experience with an insurance carrier.
• 5+ years of progressive people‑leadership experience in a multi‑jurisdictional environment.
• Advanced knowledge of WC claims, litigation, reserving, medical and disability management, Medicare compliance, settlement, and subrogation.
• Licensing: active adjuster license or ability to obtain and maintain all required licenses.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Workers’ Compensation claims managers across multiple jurisdictions.
• Provide strategic oversight of complex, catastrophic, and high‑exposure claims.
• Drive strategies around compensability, medical management, litigation, reserving, and settlements.
• Monitor claim quality, performance, and financial results to identify trends and improvements.
• Partner with legal, medical, compliance, actuarial, finance, SIU and other stakeholders.
• Build relationships with customers, brokers, and partners.
• Champion talent development, technology use, analytics and continuous improvement.
