Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking an experienced Director of Claims – Workers’ Compensation to lead a regional team across NY, NJ, MA, ME and other Northeast jurisdictions.

This high‑impact leadership role focuses on developing strong teams, overseeing complex, high‑exposure claims, and driving quality, service, and financial performance while collaborating with legal, medical, compliance, and finance partners.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Workers’ Compensation claims experience with an insurance carrier.
• 5+ years of progressive people‑leadership experience in a multi-jurisdictional environment.
• Advanced knowledge of Workers’ Compensation claims, litigation, reserving, medical and disability management, Medicare compliance, settlement, and subrogation.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and decision‑making skills.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience; advanced degree or professional designation preferred.
• Licensing Requirement: Active adjuster license or willingness to obtain and maintain all required state licenses.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop Workers’ Compensation claims managers and professionals across multiple jurisdictions.
• Provide strategic oversight of complex, catastrophic, and high-exposure claims.
• Drive effective strategies around compensability, medical management, litigation, reserving, Medicare compliance, settlement, and recovery.
• Monitor claim quality, operational performance, and financial results to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
• Partner with legal, medical, compliance, actuarial, finance, SIU, and other key stakeholders.
• Build strong relationships with customers, brokers, and business partners.
• Champion talent development, operational consistency, technology, analytics, and continuous improvement.
