Selective Insurance is seeking an Underwriting Strategy & Portfolio Insights Leader in New Jersey to serve as a senior strategic partner to the SVP, Underwriting Strategy. You will guide portfolio analytics, planning and cross-functional leadership to identify risks and opportunities and improve enterprise performance.

Qualifications

Strong understanding of commercial P&C economics, pricing, loss trends and profitability drivers.
Ability to turn complex data into clear business insights and recommendations.
Experience influencing senior stakeholders across functions.
Analytical, with excellent communication and presentation skills.
Comfort with ambiguity and building new processes/frameworks.
Experience with underwriting strategy, portfolio management or executive strategy support.
Experience with external market data and analytics tools (Power BI, SQL, Python, R).
Familiarity with predictive modeling, AI, and ML in insurance.
People leadership and talent development experience.

Responsibilities

Partner with the SVP to shape and execute enterprise underwriting strategy.
Analyze portfolio performance across lines, segments, geographies, and risk characteristics.
Identify trends, profitability issues, growth opportunities, concentration risks and shifts in risk quality.
Develop strategic recommendations on portfolio mix, pricing direction, appetite and performance.
Lead portfolio reviews, analyses and executive-level reporting.
Translate data into actionable underwriting insights.
Build analytical frameworks and tools to monitor portfolio health.
Collaborate across Underwriting, Product, Actuarial, Claims, Finance, Analytics, and regional leadership.
Support strategic initiatives, tracking and accountability.
Help recruit, mentor and develop a high-performing strategy team.
