Job summary

Metra Commuter Rail is seeking a Senior Director, Track and Structures in Chicago to lead the Track, Bridges, Buildings, Electrical Maintenance, and Maintenance of Way groups across districts. The role directs capital construction programs, budgets, and safety initiatives while collaborating with labor, contractors, and regulators.

The position requires strategic leadership, strong analytical and negotiation skills, and the ability to manage large, diverse teams in a unionized environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ten years of engineering maintenance experience with complex capital projects and contract administration.
• Six years of supervisory experience including budgeting, staffing, and disciplinary procedures.
• Knowledge of railroad engineering maintenance principles for track, bridges, buildings, facilities, and MOW infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Direct overall operation, maintenance, capital improvement, and regulatory compliance of Track & Structures across districts.
• Lead labor contract negotiations and manage collective bargaining agreements.
• Oversee budgeting, staffing, and departmental policy development to support safe operations.
• Direct planning and execution of Maintenance of Way capital programs including tie renewals and facility projects.
• Represent department with external entities, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
