Job summary

Metra is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to perform mechanical design, engineering, construction management, and maintenance support on commuter railroad lines, yards, shops, substations, facilities, stations, and headquarters. You will prepare design packages with drawings, specs, and load calculations to ensure compliance with Chicago and national codes, NFPA, ASHRAE, and BAS systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Five years of Mechanical Engineering experience in design of mechanical systems, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm and fueling systems, BAS control and railroad systems.
• Proficiency in AUTOCADD or Microstation software.
• Knowledge of QA procedures, HAP, Trane software, and BAS controls.
• Know ledge of Chicago Mechanical Code, Chicago Building Code, NFPA, ASHRAE and related codes.
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design, engineering, construction management and maintenance support for Metra lines and facilities.
• Prepare design packages with drawings, equipment specs and load calculations to meet codes and BAS systems.
• Manage construction activities: bidding, awarding contracts, site monitoring, changes and payments.
• Supervise consultant contracts; organize design meetings and phase reviews.
• Provide cost estimates, schedules and grant-related budget costs for projects.
• Provide field direction to maintenance electricians and contractors.
