Job summary

Macalester College seeks an Associate Dean of Students for Residential Life to provide strategic leadership for the on-campus living experience. The role directs the residential curriculum, housing operations, and the expansion toward a three-year live-on requirement while advancing student well-being and success.

As a senior housing officer and member of the Dean of Students leadership team, you will oversee a diverse staff, manage the budget, and collaborate across campus to ensure equitable,

Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of progressively responsible experience in residential life and student affairs, with at least 3 years with full supervisory accountability.
• Experience designing, implementing, and assessing residential curricula and living-learning programs.
• Experience managing departmental budgets and contributing to resource allocation decisions.
• Experience in emergency response and behavioral intervention at an institutional level.
• Experience collaborating across academic and student affairs units to advance student success.
• Experience at a small, residential liberal arts college preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides executive-level vision and direction for residential life at Macalester.
• Establishes strategic priorities for the residential experience aligned with institutional goals.
• Leads the residential curriculum development and assessment.
• Oversees housing operations, occupancy planning, and policy implications.
• Leads on-call and emergency response for student safety and well-being.
• Represents Residential Life in campus partnerships and committees.
• Manages the departmental operating budget and resource allocation.
• Other responsibilities as assigned and participates in college-wide initiatives.
