Job summary

RK Mechanical, Inc. seeks a Director of Preconstruction to lead the budgeting and design phases of multimillion-dollar projects across data centers, healthcare, and industrial markets.

You will organize teams, develop estimates, manage risk, and partner with executive leadership to drive strategic growth. In this role you will mentor the preconstruction staff, refine estimating practices, and deliver executive-level reporting on project trends and department performance.

Qualifications

• College/University graduate preferred with 10 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of skills and experience.
• Extensive experience leading a team and large-scale preconstruction projects in manufacturing, electrical, and/or plumbing.
• Expert in field with strong planning, judgment, and communication skills.
• Experience with all design phases from conceptual docs to final drawings and specs.
• Excellent analytical abilities to interpret blueprints and project proposals.

Responsibilities

• Organize all project team members.
• Develop schematic and design development estimates with Preconstruction Managers.
• Track and report variance of estimates through documents and logs.
• Negotiate contract scope and ensure budget compliance.
• Attend design meetings for Design Build and Design Assist projects.
• Maintain records of meeting minutes for design and preconstruction phases.
• Ensure plans/specs are updated on the company server.
• Work with External Stakeholders during preconstruction.
• Assist in Narrative Scopes and customer relations.
• Ensure estimates reflect complete project requirements.
• Provide engineering assistance to Operations during construction.
• Provide budget certainty and input on constructability.
• Mentor and train staff to stay current with market demands.
• Improve estimating practices as needed.
• Prepare executive reporting on department needs and trends.
