Job summary

Yusen Logistics Group in California seeks a Senior Director of Port Transportation & Fleet Operations to lead company-owned transportation serving the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. You will direct a ~50-driver fleet, manage budgets, drive profitability, and oversee customer relationships with a focus on efficiency and compliance.

You will develop partnerships with steamship lines, terminals, and 3PLs, while guiding strategy for service quality and growth in a dynamic logistics environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree plus 7+ years' related experience in transportation, trucking, port drayage, logistics, or related fields.
• Experience managing transportation operations and frontline personnel.
• Experience managing fleets, drivers, and dispatch functions.
• Port drayage experience, preferably within the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
• Strong understanding of transportation financials, pricing, and profitability.
• Customer account management and business development experience.
• Proficiency with TMS, Microsoft Excel, and reporting tools.
• Strong communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership of transportation operations, dispatch, driver utilization, equipment availability, routing, scheduling, and customer service execution.
• Oversee daily freight movement to ensure timely pickup and delivery from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
• Coordinate fleet maintenance to minimize downtime.
• Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, California, port, terminal, and company regulations.
• Develop and maintain relationships with steamship lines, terminals, and logistics partners.
• Develop relationships with importers, exporters, and 3PLs to drive growth.
• Monitor terminal operations, congestion, appointments, chassis availability, and performance factors.
• Oversee driver staffing, scheduling, training, performance management, and retention.
• Manage customer relationships and act as senior escalation point for issues.
• Develop operation budgets, forecasts, pricing strategies, and financial targets.
• Improve terminal turn times and reduce detention, empty miles, and wait times.
• Analyze profitability by customer, lane, and service offering; implement improvements.
• Establish KPIs for safety, productivity, utilization, and profitability.
• Lead start-up, transition, and stabilization of transportation operations.
• Develop business development and account maintenance strategies to secure customers.
• Generate proposals, pricing models, and transportation solutions aligned with profitability.
• Partner with Finance to ensure billing accuracy and detentions recovery.
• Lead and develop transportation management, dispatch, and driver personnel.
• Collaborate with finance, sales, HR, safety, maintenance, and other functions.
• Provide regular operational and financial reporting to senior management.
