Position Overview
The Senior Director of Operations will play a critical role in shaping and executing the organization's technology strategy and infrastructure, facilities management, safety, compliance, and operational efficiency. This leadership position requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in operations management, particularly within the nonprofit sector. As a member of the core executive team, the Senior Director of Operations will ensure alignment with the organization's mission and values, with a strong focus on customer service for staff and persons served.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy and Infrastructure:
Develop and implement a comprehensive technology strategy to support the organization's mission and goals.
Oversee the management and maintenance of IT systems, ensuring they are secure, reliable, and scalable in partnership with vendors.
Lead initiatives to enhance digital accessibility and inclusion for individuals with disabilities.
Facilities Management
Ensure all facilities are safe, accessible, and well-maintained.
Oversee the planning and execution of facility upgrades and renovations.
Manage relationships with vendors and service providers.

Lease management
Support tenants
Safety and Compliance
Develop and enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe environment for staff, clients, and visitors.
Ensure compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential hazards.
Lead training strategy for safety and compliance procedures for all team members.

Security Strategy
Develop and implement a comprehensive security strategy to protect the organization's assets, facilities, and personnel.
Ensure physical and digital security measures are in place and regularly updated.
Conduct security assessments and drills to prepare for potential threats.
Operational Efficiency
Streamline operational processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Implement best practices in project management and operational planning.
Monitor and analyze key performance indicators to drive continuous improvement.
Lead records management strategy for participant and staff digital record keeping
Lead platform and tool strategy and cross departmental implementation
Budget Management
Develop and manage the operating budget in partnership with finance team to ensure financial sustainability.
Monitor expenditures and implement cost-control measures.
Manage the operations budget, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and financial constraints.
Vendor Selection and Management
Oversee the selection and management of vendors to ensure high-quality and cost-effective services.
Negotiate contracts and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
Evaluate vendor performance and address any issues promptly.
Executive Leadership
Serve as a member of the core executive team, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
Ensure all operational activities align with the organization's mission and values.
Collaborate with other executive leaders to drive organizational success.
Team Collaboration
Work effectively in an environment with team members of varying levels of technical skill.
Provide guidance and support to staff to enhance their technical capabilities.
Promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Intern Management
Oversee the recruitment, training, and supervision of facilities and technology interns.
Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for interns.
Ensure interns are effectively integrated into the team and contribute to the organization's goals.
Customer Service Focus
Foster a culture of excellent customer service, ensuring that all operations support the organization's mission.
Engage with staff, clients, and community members to understand their needs and improve service delivery.
Implement feedback mechanisms to continuously enhance the customer experience.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field or commensurate experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Proven experience in technology strategy and infrastructure management.
Strong knowledge of facilities management, safety protocols, and compliance requirements.
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Experience in budget planning and management.
Experience in vendor procurement and management.
Experience working with team members of varying technical skill levels.
Passion for the mission of empowering individuals with disabilities.
Driver’s license
This role will primarily be in person
Work Environment
This position is primarily located at 1500 Howard Street, San Francisco. Some work time will be spent at The Arc San Francisco satellite sites in Burlingame, CA and Marin, CA, and in the Greater Bay Area with organizational partners.
