Job summary

Babson College in Wellesley, MA, seeks an experienced Financial Aid Loan Specialist to plan, publicize, and manage policies for federal, state, institutional and private loans. You will serve as the primary contact for students and parents to help decide the best loan product and borrowing amount based on cost of attendance by program.

The role covers origination, disbursement, monthly reconciliation, and compliance; you will liaise with lenders and campus offices to ensure timely disbursements

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 4–6 years of related experience including knowledge of financial aid regulations.
• Ability to succeed in a customer-oriented, technology-intensive work environment.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills including advising and negotiation.
• Strong attention to detail and compliance requirements.
• Ability to anticipate and embrace change and take initiative.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact for students and parents seeking financing options.
• Assist with outreach, guiding borrowing amounts for loans and cost of attendance where needed.
• Using knowledge of loan products, identify best financing options for individuals.
• Manage certification, processing, and return of funds for federal, state, institutional and private loans; coordinate with Student Accounts and Financial Services.
• Administer the Federal Direct Loan program, origination, disbursement, and monthly reconciliation; COD site liaison.
• Approve and award private loans using ELM; handle cost of attendance changes and borrower documentation.
• Certify/approve loans as needed; communicate with lenders and applicants.
• Monitor, update and track internal and external loan change requests.
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations; train team members; attend training.
• Support Cohort Default Rate management and provide debt counseling workshops.
• Liaise with lenders, servicers and guarantors; conduct annual RFI for private loan options.
• Handle Perkins Loan and Mass No Interest Loan programs; manage origination and servicing.
• Take on additional responsibilities as required.
