Job summary

Indiana University in Bloomington seeks a senior leader to serve as the Organization's second in command for external affairs, communications, philanthropy, and membership engagement. You will guide strategy, advocate on behalf of historians and education, and oversee staff and budgets to advance institutional priorities.

The role requires 5 years in a related field, a Bachelor's degree, and strong leadership and communication skills in a higher-education setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• Minimum 5 years in related field.
• Leadership experience in scholarly/humanities or higher-education membership association preferred.
• Experience working with a volunteer board of directors and/or elected leadership.
• Experience in staff management; familiarity with higher-education and policy environments.
• Familiarity with nonprofit governance and board relations.

Responsibilities

• Lead external affairs and communications to advance organizational priorities.
• Coordinate advocacy strategy and engagement with stakeholders.
• Develop and execute strategic plans, budgets, and performance metrics.
• Supervise communications, membership, and donor engagement functions.
• Align activities across departments to support institutional goals.
• Represent IU publicly and in writing to diverse audiences.
