Job Overview

Vera Therapeutics (Nasdaq: VERA) is a late-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for serious immunological diseases. Position Summary

We seek a highly driven individual to join as Senior Director, Medical Affairs Operations. Reporting to the EVP of Medical Affairs, this role will lead operational planning and execution of Medical Affairs strategies, including budget management, OKRs, and vendor oversight for initiatives like advisory boards and steering committees. The role offers visibility and influence in shaping the department's growth, with regular presentations to leadership. This is a remote position with periodic travel to Brisbane, CA, and conferences.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic vision for Medical Affairs in collaboration with leadership.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including planning and organizing meetings and working groups.
  • Act as liaison among internal teams, external partners, KOLs, and vendors.
  • Enhance processes and systems to improve Medical Affairs activities, including grants, congresses, and studies.
  • Create and manage annual budgets aligned with strategic goals.
  • Monitor financial data, forecast needs, and ensure compliance with policies.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize spending.
  • Coordinate with finance for reconciliation and corrective actions.
  • Keep leadership informed of progress and changes.
  • Adjust operational strategies as needed based on progress and business needs.
  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop KPIs and regularly analyze metrics to drive continuous improvement and report to senior leadership.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 12+ years in Medical Affairs project management and industry experience, preferably in nephrology.
  • Proven leadership with increasing responsibility in operational management.
  • Deep knowledge of medical affairs, external partnerships, vendor management, and industry guidelines (PhRMA, FDA, OIG).
  • Experience managing vendor contracts, SOW/MSA, milestones, and budgets.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Process-driven, adaptable, and collaborative in fast-paced environments.
  • Attention to detail, energy, and results-oriented mindset.
