Job summary

The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington seeks a Senior Director, Governance and Leadership to strengthen governance infrastructure and develop a diverse, values-driven lay leadership pipeline. This senior role reports to the Chief of Staff and leads a small team, partnering with top lay and professional leaders to align governance with strategic priorities.

The position is hybrid in North Bethesda, MD, and focuses on governance systems, leadership programming, and cross-department

Qualifications

• 8+ years of progressive professional experience in nonprofit leadership, governance, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex governance structures, volunteer leadership, and board relations.
• Proven track record designing and implementing leadership development programs and pipelines.
• Exceptional relationship-building and interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively with senior lay leaders, executives, and diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Chief of Staff to support the Governing Board and Board Chair as primary staff liaison for governance functions.
• Lead staff for the Governance Committee of the Board, developing structure, agenda, and cadence.
• Advance governance priorities and ensure strong lay-professional partnership with Chairs.
• Oversee board evaluations, identify opportunities for improved performance and accountability.
• Oversee bylaws review and revisions to keep governance documents current and compliant.
