Senior Director, Business Insights & Analytics

J.Crew's digital storefront is one of our most important growth engines. We're looking for a Senior Director, Business Insights & Analytics to build the insight engine behind it, turning data into decisions and moving the organization from backward-looking reporting to forward-looking, AI-enabled prediction.

Role Summary

The Senior Director, Business Insights & Analytics is the insights leader for J.Crew's digital business, responsible for a trusted view of business and customer performance and for translating data into the diagnostics, forecasts, and experiments the commercial teams act on. Reporting to the EVP, eCommerce & Digital Experience, this leader centralizes eCommerce analytics across acquisition, media measurement, onsite behavior, conversion, retention, and loyalty, spanning data foundation, business intelligence, customer intelligence, and measurement and decision science. This is a highly visible role for someone who pairs analytical depth with commercial instinct and operating rigor: able to read the business quickly, separate signal from noise, form a clear point of view, and create the momentum to act on it.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the Insight Agenda: Set the metrics, KPIs, common business definitions, and reporting architecture that give the organization one trusted view of performance. Make every recurring read isolate the drivers behind performance, answer what to do next, and deliver a clear commercial recommendation to senior leaders fast enough to change the outcome.
  • Move the Organization to Predictive: Build forecasting, propensity, elasticity, and customer lifetime value capabilities that anticipate demand, margin, and customer behavior, and put those predictions in front of decision makers before the moment has passed.
  • Apply AI to Shorten Insight to Action: Bring an informed point of view on where AI creates real advantage: anomaly detection and alerting, natural-language access to data, self-serve insight generation, and decision support embedded in the commercial workflow. Pilot with discipline and scale what works.
  • Build Customer Intelligence: Create a unified customer understanding across behavioral and journey insights, segmentation, customer value, and propensity, and make it usable by Loyalty, Performance Marketing, and Site Merchandising.
  • Own Measurement & Decision Science: Lead the measurement and experimentation agenda across site, app, marketing, and customer programs. Bring media ROI and channel forecasting in house, establish causal and incremental measurement, and hold accountability for iROAS, paid demand contribution, and forecast accuracy.
  • Build the Data Foundation: Define data standards, governance, and quality, and ensure consistent measurement across the digital business. Partner with Product, Tech, and Data Science on the shared enablers: data and AI capabilities, experimentation platforms, and workflow automation.
  • Build and Lead the Team: Lead a centralized team spanning marketing measurement, customer insights, and data analytics, embedding analysts alongside the Performance Marketing and Loyalty teams they support. Hold one analytical standard, set a high bar for craft and communication, and grow the next generation of insight leaders.
  • Anticipate What's Next: Maintain an external perspective on customer behavior, competitors, analytics practice, and emerging technology, and translate those shifts into capabilities that strengthen the business.

Operate as a senior leader across J.Crew, acting as the trusted source for how the business is performing. Bring a clear point of view, influence decisions across eCommerce, Performance Marketing, Loyalty, Business Operations, Merchandising, Planning, Finance, Product, Tech, and Data Science, and mobilize partners around the opportunities that matter most.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Business, Analytics, Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years in analytics, business intelligence, or data science, including 5+ years leading and developing teams.
  • Proven track record building an insights function that changed decisions and delivered measurable revenue, margin, and conversion impact, not just reporting output.
  • Demonstrated experience advancing a team from descriptive reporting into predictive and prescriptive analytics: forecasting, propensity and churn modeling, customer lifetime value, or marketing and pricing effectiveness.
  • Experience building or centralizing an analytics function, including in-housing capability from agency or finance partners.
  • Strong command of marketing and media measurement, including incrementality and causal methods, channel forecasting, iROAS, and paid demand contribution.
  • Practical understanding of AI and machine learning applications in an analytics function, with judgment about where they create advantage and where they do not.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to move fluidly from data and diagnosis to priorities, decisions, and action, and to present findings persuasively to non-technical senior leaders.
  • Proficiency with modern data and visualization tools such as Looker, Power BI, SQL, and cloud data platforms.
  • Prior experience in a digital retail environment is required; experience with a fashion or apparel retailer is preferred.
