Job summary

Avalo Therapeutics seeks a Sr. Director, Controller to lead accounting operations and ensure accurate, audit-ready financial reporting. This role drives SOX compliance, oversees R&D and G&A accounting, and partners with FP&A and external auditors to support corporate growth.

The ideal candidate has 7–10 years in biotech accounting, strong U.S. GAAP knowledge, and proven leadership in a public company setting.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.
7–10 years of progressive accounting experience in biotech or life sciences.
Strong R&D accounting experience (CROs, clinical trials, CMC/manufacturing).
Experience leading general ledger accounting and monthly close.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls, SOX readiness, and audits.
ERP and financial systems expertise to improve processes.
Experience with CRO accrual software or close automation is a plus.
Proven leadership in growing organizations.
Strong cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close and core accounting operations.
Lead and develop the GL accounting team, including R&D and G&A accounting oversight.
Document accounting for new R&D, clinical, and manufacturing agreements with FP&A.
Review estimates, accruals, and judgments for CRO, clinical trials, and R&D arrangements.
Oversee G&A accounting, expenses, payroll-related accounting, and reconciliations.
Drive close calendar and improve close quality and efficiency.
Prepare monthly close deck and management reporting.
