Job summary

Schneider is seeking a Diesel Shop Manager in Chicago, IL to lead a company shop, improve equipment availability, reduce repair costs and drive overall shop performance. The role requires management of operations Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

in Chicago, IL, with potential weekend work based on business needs. Ideal candidates will have a technical degree in diesel technology, 4–6 years of diesel technician experience, and prior shop leadership or transportation industry background.

Qualifications

• A Technical degree in diesel technology or related field.
• 4–6 years of diesel technician experience.
• Previous shop leadership experience preferred.
• Previous transportation industry experience preferred.
• Willing to work at least one weekend day per month.
• Strong leadership skills to create a high-performance environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.

• Address unsafe behaviors to ensure safety compliance.
• Be accountable for maintenance costs, equipment availability and repair decisions.
• Communicate with other areas to understand equipment needs and priorities.
• Maintain appropriate parts inventory.
• Oversee the shop budget including tires, tooling and overtime.
• Assign work to shop personnel and maintain open communication.
• Perform live work order and performance audits of staff.
• Set performance goals for the shop and individuals.
• Ensure the shop is properly staffed with technicians and leaders.

Responsibilities

• Reinforce and demonstrate Schneider’s core values as a leader of a shop.
• Address any unsafe behaviors to ensure safety compliance.
• Be accountable for all maintenance costs, equipment availability and repair decisions within the shop.
• Have strong communication with other areas of the business to understand needs and priority of equipment.
• Be responsible for maintaining appropriate parts inventory.
• Oversee the budget for the shop, including expenses related to tires, tooling, miscellaneous items and overtime.
• Assign work to shop associates and maintain an open line of communication with associates.
• Perform live work order audits and performance audits of shop associates.
• Set performance goals for the shop as a whole and for individual shop associates.
