Job summary

Christina School District in Newark, Delaware, seeks a skilled craftsman to repair and maintain school buses, trucks, and related equipment. The role requires a formal trade school background and at least four years in automotive repair with diesel and air brake proficiency. CDL Class B and a School Bus license with endorsements are required within probation.

Qualifications

• Formal trade school or equivalent acceptable to the district.
• Four years' automotive mechanic experience with diesel and air brake systems.
• Follow written and oral instructions and complete service records.
• Stay current on diagnostic/fleet maintenance software such as quickserv and M5.
• Operate machinery including forklift, plow truck, Bobcat, bus lifts, tractors.
• Diagnose and repair various makes/models of school buses.
• Possess/obtain CDL Class B and School Bus license with endorsements.
• Able to lift 50 pounds with assistance and work varying shifts.
• Supply complete personal hand tools up to 1 inch sockets/wrenches.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety of buses and students during maintenance and transport.
• Repair complex vehicle systems and perform preventative maintenance.
• Use diagnostic tools to identify mechanical/electronic issues.
• Repair wheelchair lifts and electrical systems; diagnose engine performance.
• Respond to roadside service calls and assist drivers during emergencies.
• Open/close transportation operations and document maintenance records.
• Prepare buses for biannual state inspection and repairs as needed.
• Rebuild engines, transmissions, and axles when required.
