Job summary

Christina School District is seeking a Maintenance B School Bus Mechanic to repair and maintain school buses, trucks, cars and related equipment. You will perform preventative maintenance, ensure safety during transportation, and assist other maintenance staff as needed.

The role requires formal trade training, two years of automotive experience, and a CDL Class B with School Bus P/S endorsements. Some night shifts or extended hours may be required; you must supply your own hand tools and be

  • Formal trade school or equivalent acceptable to the district.
  • Two years' experience in an automotive mechanic trade.
  • Ability to perform tasks in their specific craft.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction and to complete service records and reports.
  • Must have or obtain a CDL Class B Commercial Driver's License and a School Bus Drivers License with P and S.
  • May be required to work night shift, extended hours or holidays as transportation or district operations require.
  • Must supply complete set of personal hand tools up to one inch sockets and wrenches.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Assists other maintenance personnel when requested.
  • Ensure safety of buses worked on for safe transportation of students, drivers and general public.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on buses and equipment: trucks, plows, skid steer, tractor.
  • Answer spontaneous shop calls.
  • Salt plow yards with all equipment as needed for snow removal and ice conditions.
  • Prepare all buses for biannual state inspection.
  • Repair/replace radio/pa systems.
  • Cooperate with other Transportation Department employees and district personnel.
  • Participate in maintenance operations beyond shown skill when needed.
  • Handle maintenance requests and paperwork involved in assignment.

BASIC FUNCTION

Responsible for performing skilled repair and maintenance of school buses, trucks, cars and related work as required

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Formal trade school or equivalent acceptable to the district
  • Two years' experience in an automotive mechanic trade
  • Ability to perform tasks in their specific craft
  • Ability to follow written and oral instruction and to complete service records and reports.
  • Must have or obtain a CDL "Class B" Commercial Driver's License* and a School Bus Drivers License with "P*" and "S" to be successfully completed within the probationary period of employment
  • May be required to work night shift, extended hours or holidays as transportation or district operations require.
  • Must supply complete set of personal hand tools up to one (1) inch sockets and wrenches.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds with assistance
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • A ssists other maintenancepersonnel when requested
  • Ensure safety of buses worked on for safe transportation of student's drivers and general public
  • Perform preventative maintenance on buses and equipment trucks, plows, skid steer, tractor
  • Answer spontaneous shop calls
  • Salt plow yards with all equipment as needed for snow removal and ice conditions
  • Prepare all buses for biannual state inspection
  • Repair/replace radio/pa systems
  • Cooperate fully with other Transportation Department employees and other district personnel
  • Participate in maintenance operations other than their demonstrated skill when needed
  • Handles maintenance requests as assigned by the Supervisor or the designee and paperwork involved in completion of assignment.
  • Operates other equipment as required including a school bus in urgent situations
  • Complete written or electronic maintenance records for all equipment
  • Responds to road service calls to repair or retrieve disabled vehicles with an A or Skilled Craftsman
  • May be required to work during emergency operations.
  • Sweep/clear debris from shop floors
  • Minor repairs to fenders or other body parts.
  • Replace all light bulbs, headlamp, marker, clearance stop lights, overheads dome lamp turn signal and lens and covers, stop arms, stop signs, seat covers as needed.
