Job summary

Vets Hired seeks a Diesel/Mechanic to repair and maintain buses and fleet vehicles to ensure safe, reliable operation. Responsibilities include testing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines, transmissions, HVAC, electrical systems and brakes; inspecting components; performing preventive maintenance; and ensuring serviceability and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform testing, repair, installation, and maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, HVAC, electrical systems, brake systems, suspension, steering, and electronic components.
  • Remove, inspect, repair, and replace defective parts and vehicle components.
  • Rebuild diesel engines and replace engines and transmissions as required.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using appropriate diagnostic tools.
  • Perform repairs using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and measuring instruments.
  • Adjust diesel engine components such as valves, timing, and injectors.
  • Inspect and maintain brake systems, bearings, axles, wheel bearings, and air brake components.
  • Perform preventive maintenance including oil changes, filter replacements, tire replacements, and light repairs.
  • Determine equipment serviceability and ensure vehicles meet operational standards.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain compliance with workplace regulations.

Under the direction of the Superintendent or General Foreman, the Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining buses and other fleet vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Key Responsibilities
