Job summary

Surefire Cyber is seeking a Principal Consultant in Digital Forensics & Incident Response. Remote (USA) role, full-time, exempt, with a $100K–$160K base salary plus 20% bonus.

You will lead advanced DFIR engagements, perform in-depth forensic analyses, and mentor a 3–4 person team while coordinating with clients across industries. You will manage investigations end-to-end, communicate findings clearly, and provide after-hours support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, CS, IT, or equivalent experience.
• Industry certifications or equivalent seniority as a Principal/Lead Forensic Consultant or similar.
• Experience leading forensic workstreams with teams of 3–4 on complex investigations.
• Proficient with digital forensic artifacts and tools (ELK, Axiom, EnCase, FTK).
• Strong network analysis and intrusion detection tool knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate curiosity, continuous learning, and share insights with the team.
• Forensically lead incident response engagements from detection to recovery.
• Conduct advanced forensic analysis to determine scope and impact of incidents.
• Independently manage investigations of varying size and complexity.
• Provide mentoring and career development for the forensic team.
• Explain attack vectors and attacker techniques to guide mitigation.
• Prepare clear forensic findings for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
