Job summary

American Family Insurance seeks a Cloud Platform & DevOps Engineer to design, build, and operate cloud platforms across AWS and GCP. The role focuses on Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and Backstage-based developer experience, delivering secure, scalable pipelines and robust observability.

Responsibilities include CI/CD development, artifact management with Artifactory, and strong SRE practices to ensure reliability and performance across engineering teams.

Qualifications

• Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing an internal developer portal (Backstage.io).
• Strong desire to improve developer experience with self-service tools.
• Experience developing custom Backstage plugins (TypeScript, Node.js, React).
• Configure and manage Backstage Software Catalog for a unified view of services and tooling.
• Create and maintain software templates with Backstage Scaffolder.
• Extensive cloud experience with AWS and/or GCP; familiarity with the other.
• IaC principles with Terraform to automate provisioning.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate cloud platform and DevOps capabilities.
• Develop Kubernetes and IaC foundations for reliable delivery.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
• Drive automation, observability, and best practices across teams.
• Manage software artifacts and dependencies in CI/CD pipelines (Artifactory).
• Implement SRE practices: SLIs/SLOs, dashboards, and incident response.
