Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the CI/CD and Embedded Software Development Tools team within VEST. You will design, build, and operate cloud-based CI/CD platforms and pipelines that support GM’s embedded software and large-scale virtualized test environments.

You will blend CI/CD tooling expertise with cloud infrastructure to enable automated builds, headless test execution, and integration with co-simulation environments across enterprise teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in software tools, platform, or infrastructure development, with a strong focus on DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and/or cloud-based applications.
• Strong expertise in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins and GitHub Actions or comparable technologies.
• Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (Azure or AWS) and services, including containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python, Bash, and at least one of C, C++, or Java.
• Solid understanding of embedded software development tools, build processes, and workflows.
• Knowledge of test automation frameworks for virtual and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
• Demonstrated experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipeline solutions for complex, multi-component systems.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills across build, pipeline, and infrastructure layers.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities in Agile/DevOps environments.
• Proven ability to lead or drive challenging technical projects with high ambiguity

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for embedded software production, enabling automated builds, integration, and testing.
• Architect, implement, and operate cloud-based platforms that host build, test, and virtualization capabilities as part of an end-to-end CI/CD framework.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, document, and implement best practices for build, test, and deployment automation.
• Ensure the scalability, reliability, availability, and security of CI/CD pipelines and cloud platforms.
• Integrate CI/CD pipelines with physical and virtual test environments to enable seamless execution of automated tests and co-simulation workloads.
• Develop methods to automate provisioning, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the virtualization platform and cloud services.
• Monitor and analyze pipeline/platform performance and quality metrics; identify bottlenecks and improve.
• Troubleshoot builds, pipelines, and cloud infrastructure with software developers, architects, and testers.
• Act as SME for cloud infra, CI/CD, and virtualization; provide guidance and training.
• Coordinate with IT ops, cybersecurity, and suppliers to ensure policy compliance.
• Prepare and deliver updates and demonstrations of platform capabilities and roadmap to leadership and partners.
• Stay current with DevOps, cloud-native tech, and virtualization trends and apply relevant innovations.
