Job description

Senior DevOps Engineer

Job type: Full Time · Department: Software · Work type: On-Site · USD 110,000-130,000 / year

St. Louis, Missouri, United States

About Us

At Intramotev, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the freight industry by liberating tons of freight from congested highways, reducing carbon emissions, and enhancing transportation efficiency. We are deploying self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles to transform freight logistics and bring innovation to our rail network.

Based in St. Louis, MO, we are committed to promoting industrial revitalization, saving lives, and minimizing the environmental impact of trucking. We actively foster a work environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunities for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer to take ownership of the CI/CD pipeline architecture and infrastructure strategy that powers development of our self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles. This is a senior individual-contributor role: you'll own our GitHub Actions pipelines and internal server/cloud infrastructure end-to-end — reliability, scaling, and developer experience — set standards for tooling and Infrastructure-as-Code as the engineering org grows, and mentor less-senior DevOps and engineering staff along the way. This is a full-time, 100% in-office role based in St. Louis, MO. You'll work within a team of 3–10 engineers and engage in occasional domestic travel for testing, integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pipeline Ownership & Architecture: Own GitHub Actions CI/CD pipeline architecture — reliability, build times, and developer experience — and set the technical direction for how the pipeline scales as the engineering org grows.

  • Infrastructure Architecture: Own internal server and cloud infrastructure strategy, not just day-to-day maintenance, driving availability, performance, and scaling decisions for the engineering team.

  • Standards & Tooling: Set standards for internally built engineering tools and how they integrate into development workflows; establish Infrastructure-as-Code practices where none exist yet.

  • Test Automation Strategy: Own the architecture of the automated testing framework within the pipeline, partnering with software engineers to expand coverage.

  • Lifecycle Support: Lead diagnosis and resolution of infrastructure and deployment issues for fielded systems, including the harder and more ambiguous cases.

  • Operational Practices: Establish the runbooks, on-call/escalation basics, and documentation practices a growing DevOps function needs.

  • Leadership & Mentoring: Document systems, capture institutional knowledge, and mentor less-senior DevOps and engineering staff on operational practices and technical standards.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $110,000–$130,000 plus equity

Intramotev offers a comprehensive benefits package for all team members, including:

  • Medical coverage: We cover 100% of employee medical premiums, plus low-cost dental and vision options.

  • Vacation: Full-time employees enjoy unlimited paid time off.

  • Equity: Full-time employees receive equity in the company.

  • Parental leave: New parents receive paid time off to spend quality time with their family.

About You: Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • At least a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • 8 or more years of experience in DevOps, Software Engineering, Build/Release Engineering, or Systems Administration, including experience owning CI/CD or infrastructure architecture decisions rather than executing under someone else's design.

  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches.

  • Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions or comparable CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, CircleCI) at a scale requiring architectural decisions, not just pipeline authoring.

  • Working knowledge of at least one major cloud provider (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including infrastructure design tradeoffs.

  • Strong Linux systems administration and shell scripting experience.

  • A startup or small-company background — or an equivalent small-team role inside a larger company — where you owned the full CI/CD and infrastructure stack end-to-end as the decision-maker, rather than a narrow specialist slice of it.

  • A track record mentoring less-senior engineers or setting technical standards for a team.

  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as an individual contributor.

  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.

  • U.S. Person (immigration or work visa sponsorship will not be provided).

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience)

Candidate should have a working knowledge of one or (ideally) multiple areas listed below:

  • Experience in directly applicable industry or projects, such as Rail, Electric Vehicles, or Unmanned Systems.

  • Experience supporting embedded software builds or hardware-in-the-loop testing.

  • Containerization with Docker, including production orchestration experience.

  • Scripting in Python or Bash for automation.

  • Hands-on Infrastructure-as-Code experience (e.g., Terraform, Ansible), beyond familiarity.

  • Experience standing up monitoring/observability tooling (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana) from scratch.

  • Experience on cross-functional teams alongside other engineering disciplines; Agile/Scrum environments.

Typical Education and Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor and/or Master) and typically 8 or more years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master + 6 years' related work experience).

Relocation

No relocation assistance is provided for this role; candidates must currently reside in the St. Louis metro area or be willing to relocate at their own expense.

Equal Opportunity Employer

Intramotev is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Employment decisions are made without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, physical or mental disability, genetic factors, military/veteran status or other characteristics protected by law.
