We are deploying self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles to transform freight logistics and bring innovation to our rail network.

Based in St. Louis, MO, we are committed to promoting industrial revitalization, saving lives, and minimizing the environmental impact of trucking and transportation. We actively foster a work environment for every teammate that's welcoming, respectful and inclusive, with great opportunities for professional growth. Find your future with us.

Role Overview

We are seeking an Associate Electrical Engineer to join our electrical team as we grow the fleet of self-propelled battery-electric railcars and vehicles. This is a broad early-career electrical seat spanning vehicle electrical systems, power electronics, battery systems, and electric motor systems, with enough software literacy to work at the hardware/firmware boundary. This is a full-time, 100% in-office role based in St. Louis, MO. You'll work within a team of 1–10 engineers and technicians and engage in occasional domestic travel for testing, integration, demonstrations, and customer interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design & Development: Translate written requirements into electrical designs across controllers, low- and high-voltage distribution, wiring and interconnect, sensors, and actuators.

  • Power Electronics & Battery Systems: Support the design, test, and validation of DC/DC converters, inverters, and motor drives, and contribute to battery pack architecture and battery management system (BMS) instrumentation under safe high-voltage practice.

  • Board- & System-Level Support: Assist with schematic capture and PCB layout, board bring-up, and bench debugging.

  • Software/Firmware Collaboration: Work at the hardware/firmware boundary — read and debug embedded code, support firmware bring-up on bench hardware, and coordinate with software engineers on the hardware/software interface.

  • Testing & Validation: Build and run bench tests, debug real hardware, and document results against operational and functional requirements.

  • Collaboration: Support supplier and production activities and coordinate with senior engineers on design decisions.

Compensation & Benefits

Base salary: $65,000-$85,000, plus equity

  • Medical coverage: We cover 100% of employee medical premiums, plus low-cost dental and vision options.

  • Vacation: Full-time employees enjoy unlimited paid time off.

  • Equity: Full-time employees receive equity in the company.

  • Parental leave: New parents receive paid time off to spend quality time with their family.

About You: Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field. Open to December 2026 and May 2027 graduates.

  • Foundational knowledge of analog and digital circuit analysis and design.

  • Hands-on experience with standard lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.

  • Academic or project experience with power electronics (DC/DC converters, inverters, motor drives) or electric machines.

  • Proficiency in a programming or scripting language, such as C/C++ or Python.

  • Familiarity with a circuit simulation tool (e.g., LTspice) or a modeling environment (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink).

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.

  • Willingness to expand into technical areas beyond your area of expertise; ability to develop innovative and novel approaches.

  • Open-minded and comfortable working in a teaming environment as an individual contributor.

  • Fluent in both written and verbal English.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. F-1 OPT is supported.

  • Electric motor control theory or battery management systems (BMS).

  • Exposure to high-voltage safety practice — isolation, PPE, lockout/tagout.

  • Hands-on wiring, harness, and panel fabrication experience.

  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) and compliance testing exposure.

  • Participation in university design competitions such as Formula SAE Electric, Solar Car, Baja, robotics, or comparable hands‑on build teams.

  • Experience in a directly applicable domain: rail, electric vehicles, automotive, aerospace, or unmanned systems.

Typical Education and Experience

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education (e.g. Bachelor and/or Master) and typically 0–2 years' related work experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. relevant internship, co-op, or university research/project experience).
