Job summary

Justworks seeks an experienced Sr. Detection Engineer to design, build, and maintain detections that power our platform. You will hunt proactively, drive incident response, and collaborate across IT, Engineering, and Security to strengthen defenses.

You’ll develop high‑fidelity detections, improve logging, and contribute to automation and playbooks. Expect on‑call rotations and cross‑functional threat initiatives in a fast‑paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years hands-on experience in detection engineering, threat hunting, and incident response.
• Strong understanding of attacker behaviors and modern threat landscapes.
• Experience with AWS security and logging services (CloudTrail, GuardDuty, IAM, VPC Flow Logs).

Responsibilities

• Build, tune, and deploy high-quality detections across our platform.
• Develop detections using telemetry from EDR, threat intel, and AWS services.
• Conduct proactive threat hunting to uncover behaviors and gaps.
• Lead security event and incident handling, including triage and containment.
• Build automation to reduce manual effort and improve accuracy.
• Participate in on-call rotation.
