Job summary

HackerOne is seeking a Senior Security Engineer in Detection & Response to build AI-powered detection capabilities for a cloud-native environment. You will design, implement, and scale detection and response workflows across endpoints, identities, and SaaS applications.

The role emphasizes automation, incident response leadership, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to improve observability and threat remediation. Remote-friendly with multiple US hubs and global reach.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in detection and response, security engineering, or security-focused software engineering.
• Proficiency in Python, Go, Ruby or similar languages with production code experience.
• Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and cloud services like CloudTrail, GuardDuty, and VPC flow logs.
• Experience with log aggregation/analysis platforms (Datadog, Splunk, ELK) and endpoint detection tools (SentinelOne, CrowdStrike).
• Familiarity with threat intelligence, threat hunting, forensics, or MITRE ATT&CK framework.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain detection-as-code capabilities across cloud, SaaS, endpoints, and identity systems.
• Develop automated investigation and response workflows to replace manual runbooks.
• Create and deploy AI/LLM-powered tooling to accelerate investigations and reduce alert fatigue.
• Lead and participate in incident response, including containment and retrospectives.
• Collaborate with engineering and platform teams to improve observability and embed detection in the development lifecycle.
• Analyze alert performance and build feedback loops to improve detection quality.
• Identify gaps in visibility and translate problems into concrete detection solutions.
• Adapt quickly to evolving threats and priorities to maintain momentum.
