Job summary

HutkerArchitects, a design-led residential practice in Massachusetts, seeks a Senior Designer to lead custom home projects from concept through construction. You’ll work closely with Principals and Associates, mentor junior designers, and ensure design intent and technical quality across all project phases.

Qualified candidates will have a B.Arch or M.Arch from an accredited program, 8-10+ years of experience, and licensure or progress toward it.

Qualifications

• B.Arch or M.Arch from an accredited program.
• 8-10+ years of professional architectural experience with a strong focus on custom residential design.
• Professional architectural license preferred or actively pursuing licensure.
• Demonstrated experience producing high-quality design and construction documentation across all project phases.
• Strong technical understanding of residential architecture, wood-frame construction, building codes, and construction administration.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to build trusted client relationships.
• Strong collaborative leadership skills with experience mentoring and developing team members.
• Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. Strong hand sketching skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to all phases of custom residential project development, from permitting and early design through construction administration and project completion.
• Develop thoughtful design solutions and technical documentation that carry design intent through every stage of the project.
• Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams, fostering strong communication and collaboration.
• Coordinate project schedules, consultants, documentation, and construction administration activities to support successful project execution.
• Develop schematic designs, presentation materials, and material selections that support the overall design vision while ensuring technical quality and code compliance.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative studio culture through technical guidance and design reviews.
