Job summary

HutkerArchitects in Massachusetts is seeking a Senior Designer to lead design and documentation for custom residential projects from concept to construction.

You will work closely with Principals, mentor junior designers, and drive high-quality design solutions while coordinating schedules, consultants, and code-compliant documentation. The role demands 8-10+ years of experience, a relevant architecture degree, and licensure pursuit or holding a license.

Qualifications

• B.Arch or M.Arch from an accredited program.
• 8-10+ years of professional architectural experience with custom residential focus.
• Licensure: professional license preferred or actively pursuing licensure.
• Experience producing design and construction documentation across all phases.
• Strong knowledge of residential architecture, wood-frame construction, codes, and construction administration.
• Excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills; client relationships.
• Strong collaborative leadership with mentoring and developing team members.
• Expert-level proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit and SketchUp; hand sketching preferred.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to all phases of custom residential project development from permitting to construction administration.
• Develop thoughtful design solutions and technical documentation carrying design intent through stages.
• Serve as primary client contact and coordinate with consultants, contractors and project teams.
• Coordinate project schedules, documentation, and construction administration activities.
• Create schematic designs and presentation materials; select materials while ensuring code compliance.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative studio culture.

Working closely with Principals and Associates,you'llcontribute to every phase of custom residential project development, build lasting client relationships, mentor emerging designers, and help shape exceptional homes from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Contribute to all phases of custom residential project development, from permitting and early design through construction administration and project completion.
• Develop thoughtful design solutions and technical documentation that carry design intent through every stage of the project.
• Serve as a trusted point of contact for clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams, fostering strong communication and collaboration.
• Coordinate project schedules, consultants, documentation, and construction administration activities to support successful project execution.
• Develop schematic designs, presentation materials, and material selections that support the overall design vision while ensuring technical quality and code compliance.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to a collaborative studio culture through technical guidance and design reviews.

Qualifications

• B.Arch or M.Arch from an accredited program

• 8-10+ years of professional architectural experience with a strong focus on custom residential design.

• Professional architectural license preferred or actively pursuing licensure.

• Demonstrated experience producing high-quality design and construction documentation across all project phases

• Strong technical understanding of residential architecture, wood-frame construction, building codes, and construction administration.

• Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to build trusted client relationships.

• Strong collaborative leadership skills withexperiencementoring and developing team members.

• Expert‑levelproficiencyinAutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. Strong hand sketching skills are preferred.

Salary:$85,000 - $112,000 a year

This represents the full salary range for the position. Placement within the range is based on experienceandqualifications.New hires are typically placed within the lower to middle portion of the range, with opportunities for salary growth as they develop in the role and advance within the firm.
