Job summary

W.W. Norton & Company is seeking a Senior Designer for the Children’s Art Department to design and manage a dynamic list of 5–8 titles per season, spanning picture books to graphic novels.

You will work directly with the Art Director and Associate Creative Director to develop book packages that are both beautiful and market-ready. The role requires a strong portfolio, exceptional typography, and the ability to lead remote collaboration with a team of designers, editors, and production staff.

Qualifications

• Strong portfolio showing range across picture books, middle grade, graphic novels, and YA.
• Excellent typographic sensibility and understanding of age-based design.

Responsibilities

• Lead full design process from acquisition to print for 5–8 titles per season.
• Hire and manage freelance illustrators and agents for book packages.
• Meet deadlines and manage production stages, ensuring clear files and clearances.
• Coordinate with production, editorial, and design teams for project success.
• Communicate regularly with editorial and production on project status and issues.
