Job summary

SmithGroup’s Denver office seeks a Senior Designer to lead architectural design across all project phases and teams. You will focus on Higher Education and Science & Technology (laboratory) markets and guide design excellence from concept through construction documents.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience, a degree in Architecture, LEED AP preferred, and proficiency in Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Rhino, Lumion and Enscape. We offer a hybrid work environment and strong benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture required.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience as an architectural designer leading medium to large projects.
  • LEED AP preferred; Architectural Registration preferred.
  • Strong design portfolio across Higher Education and Science & Technology markets.
  • Experience leading design teams and project groups.
  • Proficient with Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, Rhino, Lumion, Enscape.
  • Exemplary leadership, written and verbal communication, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural design for all project phases from concept to construction documents.
  • Develop concepts for Higher Education and Science & Technology markets.
  • Collaborate with designers, planners, project architects and engineers.
  • Produce architectural drawings, renderings and design assignments.
  • Prepare and lead design presentations and participate in project interviews.
  • Provide oversight, mentoring and monitoring of junior staff.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching.
  • Participate in employment interviews and serve as design expert and leader.

The Denver office of SmithGroup is looking for a Senior Designer to join our team.

Working with us, you will:
  • Work with the Design Principal and project teams to lead architectural design for all project phases including conceptual designs, presentations, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Develop design concepts for highly competitive pursuits and commissioned projects in Higher Education and Science & Technology (laboratory) markets.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with other designers, planners, project architects and engineers.
  • Produce architectural drawings, renderings and design assignments.
  • Prepare and lead design presentations and participate in project interviews.
  • Provide oversight, mentoring and monitoring of the work performed by junior staff.
  • Mentor junior staff and participate in performance coaching.
  • Participate in employment interviews and serve as design expert and leader.
An ideal candidate has:
  • A bachelors degree or higher in Architecture.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience as an architectural designer leading and working with medium to large-sized projects.
  • LEED AP preferred. Architectural Registration preferred.
  • A strong and diverse design portfolio across Higher Education and Science & Technology (laboratory) markets.
  • Experience leading design teams and project groups required.
  • Proficiency with and experience using current design software including Revit, SketchUp, AutoCAD, and other modeling and rendering software programs such as Rhino, Lumion and Enscape.
  • Exemplary leadership skills, strong written and verbal communication, and organizational skills to help facilitate the development of trusted relationships with clients and staff.
  • A portfolio of conceptual and built work to share.

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $95,000 to $152,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
